We are currently seeking a candidate to fulfil an open technical/administrative fulltime position at the National Food Institute, Research Group for Analytical Food Chemistry. Our Research Group holds an extensive analytical platform based on mass spectrometry and are involved in many aspects related to pesticide residue analyses.

We seek a skilled and experienced chemist to assist with scientific and technical tasks related to our function as EU reference laboratory for pesticide residues in cereals and feedstuff (EURL-CF). One of the main tasks of the EURLs is to contribute to the improvement and harmonisation of methods of analysis within their respective areas of competence. The activities provide the scientific and technical basis for future food and feed control in EU and the EURLs are important actors on the EU food safety scene. 

Responsibilities
The candidate’s main responsibility is to ensure the operation and performance of advanced analytical equipment, take part in the daily running of the analytical laboratory and contribute to problem solving related to our function as EURL. The candidate will be involved in analysis of pesticide residues and optimization of analytical methods based on GC-MS and LC-MS and will be responsible for organising proficiency tests for >100 laboratories.

The candidate will join and work closely with the strong team of technicians and scientific staff and should expect to spend working hours in the laboratory.

Specific job tasks
The main tasks of the candidate will be associated to e.g.:

  • Developing analytical methods for determination of pesticide residues in cereals and feedstuff. 
  • Planning of laboratory activities for the European Reference Laboratory activities on pesticides residues in cereals and feedstuff (EURL-CF).
  • Contribute to technical reporting.
  • Organising proficiency tests. 
  • Maintaining analytical instruments.
  • Communication with members of the EURL-CFs network in Europe and worldwide.
  • Assist with various technical and administrative tasks related to the EURL work.

The candidate may also be involved in other activities within the research group. 

The ideal candidate
The candidate is expected to have solid knowledge of and experience within pesticide residue analyses. The preferred candidate is ambitious and structured, has a high motivation for research excellence and be able to work independent and committed with enthusiasm ad interest in the work area.

Priority will be given to applicants with documented experience in and/or knowledge of one or more of the following areas:

  • An academic background in chemistry, chemical engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of experience and hands-on with pesticide residue analysis
  • Minimum 5 years of experience and hands-on using GC/MS and/or LC/MS as well as other analytical techniques
  • Experience with laboratory accreditation (ISO17025), analytical quality assurance and method validation
  • Good skills in creating well-organized workflows
  • Good communication skills including good command of English, both written and oral
  • Sample handling (from sampling, analysis)
  • You thrive on collaboration and teamwork in a multicultural environment
  • Experience in method development and optimization and should be well acquainted with the use of software for data acquisition and instrument control
  • Experience in automatic sample preparation is an advantage
  • Experience with organising proficiency tests is an advantage

As a person you have a positive mindset, are service minded, good at keeping an overview as well as having a sense for details. You are willing to contribute to solving both smaller and larger practical tasks and be able to organize and prioritize time and tasks.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

Starting date is 1. October 2023 (or according to mutual agreement). The position is full time.
