We are looking for an experienced materials engineer to assist in developing and manufacturing ceramic and/or metallic components. You will be laboratory responsible of our Process Lab. At DTU Energy, we research and develop energy conversion devices relevant to the green transition. Our research addresses technologies like fuel cells, batteries, and electrolysis. Several of the above-mentioned technologies rely on advanced functional ceramics that need to be synthesized and shaped to a specific design to fulfill their functionality in a device.

The job
You will be involved in our research and development projects involving functional ceramics. Here you will be taking part in the synthesis of materials and in developing inks and slurries with the right properties to shape components via printing or casting processes. The work will involve “hands-on” tasks in our chemistry and process labs, making components. Furthermore, you will be involved in the development and documentation of new process routes to achieve the component design targeted in our R&D projects. In addidtion, you will be involved in developing suitable sintering protocols and finally be involved in the characterisation of their properties. You will work in close collaboration with students, scientists and lab technicians in the teams of the projects in which you take part.

As a laboratory responsible for our Process Lab you will be part of the development of our lab. You will be involved in setting-up and commissioning new equipment for our lab. Communication with external suppliers and service agents will also be a part of your work. You will also be responsible for the maintenance of some of our equipment, and you will be training others in using the equipment.

 Qualifications and responsibility

  • You have a PhD in materials science or chemistry or similar experience from a research environment.
  • You have experience in ceramic shaping processes for example, tape casting, printing or spraying processes.

You should further have:

  • Excellent communication skills in English, understand Danish or be willing to learn.
  • Ability to work independently and to plan and carry out complicated tasks.
  • Ability to understand and troubleshoot equipment - related to processing and analysis.
  • Experience in daily management of chemical laboratory.
  • Passion for documentation and knowledge transfer.
  • Ability to be a part of a dynamical multi-disciplinary department and to network both with project partners and international collaborators.

Team Chemistry
You will become part of Team Chemistry, where you are 10 colleagues who work across the department with test preparation and analysis of samples, are responsible for running our chemistry laboratories, are responsible for some of our equipment and ensure correct handling of chemicals, chemical waste etc.

Salary and appointment terms
The employment is a permanent full-time position (37 hours per week), and it will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The salary will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

Starting date is as soon as possible – according to mutual agreement. The workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus, North of Copenhagen.
