Senior officer to work on High-Energy Instrumentation for Astrophysics at DTU Space. The position requires the candidate to be responsible of the daily operation of the thin film coating facility and the X-ray characterization facility. 

The job
We are looking for a skilled and experienced senior officer to be responsible of the multilayer coating and X-ray characterization facilities. The position will among others include the following items:

  • Daily operation of laboratories as well as facility upgrades for new research.
  • Suppliers contact for procurement and maintenance of the laboratories.
  • Modelling of thin film coatings
  • Reading and understanding scientific articles within the X-ray optics field.
  • Support student projects in the mentioned facilities.
  • Hands-on laboratory work in clean-rooms using techniques, such as X-ray reflectometry (XRR), Direct-Current magnetron sputtering (PVD), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM).
  • Experience working with X-ray telescope designs including Silicon Pore Optics technology.

Our expectations of you
You have

  • As a minimum a Masters degree within engineering or physics and a proven ability to manage your own time
  • Proficiency in Python and other programming languages.
  • Experience with laboratory management as you will be responsible for two laboratories; the thin film coating facility and the X-ray characterization facility and management of those. This will include servicing, developing, procurement and reporting of budget and inventory lists to upper management.
  • Teaching skills to support students and research projects to be carried out in the laboratories.
  • Knowledge within fundamental X-ray physics, optics and material science.
  • Proficient communication skills (orally and written) in English.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). You are employed as a Senior Officer.

The average weekly working hours is 30 hours/week, equivalent to a 80% position. The place of employment is DTU Campus Lyngby.

DTU Space

In the Astrophysics & Atmospheric Physics Division of the Department of Space Research and Space Technology (DTU Space), current focus areas cover exoplanets, large-scale structure of the universe, physics of compact objects, space weather, upper atmosphere physics and cosmo-climatology, as well as development of instrumentation, in particular high-energy instrumentation, i.e. X- and gamma ray detectors and optics.  The division is currently active in the operation of instruments and data analysis from three satellites. The division also runs four instrumentation laboratories and hosts a center for space weather research and forecasts.
