BEMÆRK: Ansøgningsfristen er overskredet

DTU has updated the ”Polyteknisk Grundlag” in 2023, where there will be a focus on “computational thinking” in the courses of the polytechnic foundation.

To support this, Python will be used by all students in Mathematics, Programming, Physics, etc., and all new students will need a working Python environment on their laptops.

DTU Computing Center have created a Python support unit, where we are working towards creating a good experience for new students and will generate installation guides and best practices for various environments. The Python Installation Support unit will be the de facto standard of Python installation, and you will be able to shape and form the future of the Python that students learn.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist users in installing Python+packages and resolving any installation-related issues they may encounter.
  • Provide support and guidance on the pip installation process, including package management and troubleshooting.
  • Guide users in setting up and managing Conda environments, ensuring smooth integration with their existing Python installations.
  • Preparing and documenting the future Python environment at DTU.
  • Help users understand the concept and benefits of virtual environments and provide assistance in creating and managing them.
  • Create and maintain installation guides in Markdown and reStructuredText format using the Sphinx documentation infrastructure.
  • Stay up to date with the latest "best practices" from the Python organisation (PEPs).

Our expectations of you
Requirements:

  • Ability to convey clear and precise information in written and spoken form.
  • Solid knowledge of the Python programming language.
  • Being able to work in a structured manner and have the discipline to work independently.
  • Working in a team of other supporters.
  • In-depth understanding of the Python installation process and experience in troubleshooting related issues on one or more of the 3 supported platforms (Windows, MacOS & Linux).
  • Understanding pip and how it is used for package management.
  • Experience with Python environments, either virtual (venv or similar) or conda environments.
  • Some knowledge of Markdown and reStructuredText documentation files.
  • Acquaintance with the Sphinx documentation tool.
  • Have a laptop, which will be your working computer.
  • Be physically present minimally 9-10 hours weekly at the DTU Python Installation Support location (at DTU Lyngby Campus).

What we offer in return
We can offer a work contract of a minimum of 9 hours per week and flexible working hours to suit your study activities. We expect a higher workload at the start of the semester and a smaller workload towards the end, thus spreading the work hours.
