Associate Professor in Church History

The Faculty of Theology, Copenhagen University (UCPH), invites applicants for an Associate Professor in Church History to be filled by 1 November 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job description
The position will be located in the Section for Church History. The section is engaged in research and teaching of church history from its beginning up until today. The applicant must teach church history in the entirety and do research in primarily early modern church history, including research which contributes to the development of Privacy Studies, as defined and practised at The Danish National Research Foundation Centre for Privacy Studies, Faculty of Theology, University of Copenhagen.

Qualification requirements
Applicants are expected to have a PhD in church history with focus on early modern church history and to be able to demonstrate further research in this field. Especially research regarding early modern studies in a French and German context, research relating to privacy, as well as research in topics within Danish Church History is appreciated. It is expected of the applicant that they provide a list of internationally profiled publications, documented experience with interdisciplinary collaborations and communication of research results to a broader audience.

Experience with individual and collaborative research applications must also be included in the application, as well as a description of the research projects the applicant wishes to develop as part of their employment.

Moreover, the applicant is expected to prove his/her competence in teaching church history on the level of associate professors. Documentation must take the form of a pedagogical competence profile and diploma of training in university teaching, alongside proof of experience in planning and developing courses as well as supervision.

Finally, the applicant should have experience from academic counsels and boards and other efforts to strengthen the collegiate and student environment respectively.

The associate professor is expected to divide their efforts equally between teaching and research (including administration and communication). Competence in both areas is therefore essential (more information below).

Applicants are encouraged to read the university’s guidelines for pedagogical competence profiles here: https://uddannelseskvalitet.ku.dk/quality-assurance-of-study-programmes/development-initiatives/teaching-competencies/pedagogical-competence-profile/
