The Department of Environmental and Resource Engineering (DTU Sustain) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) offers two full-time Computational expert positions in Environmental Impact Assessment . Expected start date is spring 2024.
These positions support and contribute to the development of science-based solutions for addressing society’s grand environmental challenges in a team of international front-runners in sustainability assessment and environmental impact modelling.
The positions are full-time and based at DTU Lyngby campus, just north of Copenhagen, a city renowned around the world for its relaxed atmosphere and high quality of life.
Responsibilities and qualifications
We seek strong candidates with physics or informatics background, who would like to work in the following areas:
- Developing web-based tools for environmental assessment
- Programming in Matlab or Python of differential equations systems
- Geospatial modelling of chemical impacts on humans and the environment
- Implementing science-based tools for decision support
- Big-data management and database development for use in impact assessment
We seek candidates with a strong potential for creative and excellent analytical and programming skills, willingness to collaborate and interact with researchers, to disseminate results via different platforms.
Candidates are expected to manage and organize their own work, including a proactive interaction with relevant colleagues inside and outside their hosting research section.
As part of your activities, you are expected to
- Develop and implement science-based models and tools for decision support
- Work with existing code (Python, Matlab, ArcGIS, Excel VBA) and models based on differential equations, numerical solvers, and matrix algebra
- Develop web-based tools, databases, visualizations and user interfaces
- Engage actively in international network activities (e.g. UN Environment)

Salary and appointment terms
The period of employment is 30 months. Expected starting date is 1st May 2024. Both positions are full-time positions.
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
