Are you a talented physicist or engineer with an exceptional drive for groundbreaking research? Do you have a passion for quantum information science and a desire to explore new frontiers in physics and information? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you!

The Center for Macroscopic Quantum States (bigQ) at DTU Physics is inviting applications from ambitious and proactive experimentalists for an interesting PhD project in the field of experimental quantum optomechanics. This is an exceptional opportunity to explore new dimensions of quantum physics and contribute to the development of emergent quantum technologies. Our research is primarily focused on fundamental exploration, while also promoting innovation and fostering industry partnerships.

As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to work alongside 45 talented individuals, including faculty members, postdocs and engineers. Our research center is located in the vibrant city of Lyngby, just 20 km north of Copenhagen. DTU is renowned as one of the highest-ranked technical universities in Europe.

About the Project
The successful candidate will join our established optomechanics team in developing a unique cavity opto-mechanical system. The project aims to bring the mechanical modes of a macroscopic mechanical oscillator into the true quantum domain. By controlling this mechanical system with an light, we aim to produce highly exotic, never-seen-before quantum states. This venture is not only expected to test quantum mechanics in a novel domain but also spearhead the development of applications like quantum memory and quantum transduction as required for future quantum computers and the quantum internet.

Collaboration with Chalmers University
The project is sustained through the program, Nordic Five Tech Alliance, a joint venture between the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and Chalmers University. The project will be realized in close partnership with Prof. Witlef Wieczorek from Chalmers University in Gothenburg, Sweden.
