As an Automation Specialist, you will become a key member of DTU Bioengineering and DTU Arena for Life Science Automation (DALSA). Your role will bridge the gap between experimental molecular cell biology and automation of experimental laboratory work, by contributing with hands-on innovation in the fast-evolving field of life sciences automation.
The job
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Automation Specialist to meet the growing demands for advanced data handling and process automation, essential for data-driven discoveries and adherence to stringent research integrity standards. In response to these needs, we are expanding our team to include an expert who will drive the automation processes that underpin our research.
Your primary responsibility will be to spearhead the automation efforts within DTU Bioengineering, with a focus on integrating and enhancing automation workflows for DALSA. This involves not just the development and implementation of automated workflows and protocols, but also strategic thinking around how to run and finance such a center in an open access setting. It will be key to craft a cohesive strategy for the deployment of automation technologies across the department's research activities. As the Automation Scientist, you will work in concert with employees and students from many DTU departments, all in involved in this interdisciplinary initiative.
Specific tasks
- Develop automation solutions aligned with DALSA’s strategy
- Assist various research groups at DTU in developing automated workflows to enable their research
- Contribute to the building and daily operation of DALSA
- Coordinate and host scientific workshops at DALSA
- Develop and teach at automation courses offered by DALSA
Our expectations of you
- A PhD in a field relevant to automation in life science, such as bioengineering, systems biology, or biotechnology.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing automation solutions within a research context.
- Proficiency in managing and analyzing large, heterogeneous datasets, ideally with exposure to high-throughput experimental data.
- Exceptional communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with data owners, stakeholders, and a multidisciplinary team.
- Previous experience in an interdisciplinary environment, working at the intersection of data science and automation, is highly desirable.

Salary and appointment terms
The offered permanent position is full-time (37 h/week) and the workplace is the DTU campus in Lyngby, Denmark. The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
