The Hempel Foundation Coatings Science and Technology Centre (CoaST), DTU Chemical Engineering is presently seeking a skilled and experienced mechanical engineer specialist who will support research of coatings by development, construction and use of new equipment and facilities in our laboratories, pilot plants and test stations.

The job
We are looking for a mechanical engineer in relation to the coatings industry to support development of new test methods, evaluation methods, laboratory and field test site equipment and facilities for the coating industry, to evaluate the coatings performance. Areas of interest amount others are e.g. anticorrosive coatings for steel structures, intumescent coatings for passive fire protection, antifouling coatings for ships and other functional coatings. The key responsibilities are to:

  • Execute mechanical development and propose solutions and conceptual designs
  • Design test apparatus and supervise the fabrication process from idea to implementation
  • Commission new test apparatus and set-ups
  • Expand and oversee the operation of current facilities and equipment.

In this position, you will be part of the technical team and will work closely together with other members of the team, researchers, and other personnel inside and outside DTU Chemical Engineering to facilitate the given tasks.

Our expectations of you
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate who is expected to be ambitious and work in the front line within Coating Science and Technology. You should have a strong focus on solving technical challenges, can think outside the box and you should be result-oriented and proactive, with good communication skills and ability to work within an international team. You enjoy working on complex topics and you are motivated by working autonomously. 

You are expected to have a:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
  • 3+ years experience in similar position.
  • Knowledge of current technologies and methods for application and testing of coatings.
  • Project management skills
  • Other disciplines as electronics and programing are also valuable.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations or other relevant agreement. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
