Are you passionate about modelling, mechanics and materials science? If so, this position might be perfect for you. We are seeking a modeller to predict the evolution of internal structures in metals during plastic deformation - i.e. changes in shape due to mechanical forces - and how this relates to mechanical properties. We have first-of-its kind experimental data to inspire and validate modelling procedures and predictions.
About Us: You will join an international and highly multidisciplinary team of approximately 10 PhDs and postdocs, fostering a strong collaboration between DTU Construct and DTU Physics. Our group is a global leader in the field of metal plasticity. DTU Physics invented the synchrotron-based imaging technique Dark-Field X-ray Microscopy and together we utilize it to visualize the evolution of internal structures in metals during plastic deformation, i.e. changes in shape due to mechanical forces. We work with leading international groups on modeling and conduct simulations at DTU. Our overarching goal is to understand and predict the mechanical behavior of metals during plastic deformation.
Responsibilities
- Apply existing crystal plasticity simulation software to predict the evolution of the internal structure in metals in the regimes of necking and ductile failure.
- Incorporate stochastic elements in the simulations to introduce structure formation at scales below those normally addressed by crystal plasticity
Qualifications
- Background in materials science, physics or mechanics
- Experience with finite-element modelling and/or crystal plasticity simulations
- Strong programming skills
- Strong written communication skills
- Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary collaboration
- Strong team spirit
You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.
Approval and Enrolment
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. For information about our enrolment requirements and the general planning of the PhD study programme, please see DTU's rules for the PhD education.
Assessment
The assessment of the applicants will be made by Professor Grethe Winther, DTU Construct, and Professor Henning Friis Poulsen, DTU Physics.
We offer
