Project
The project will be carried out in the group of Kira Astakhova. It is dedicated to rational design, synthesis and testing of new nucleoside and oligonucleotide compounds as potential therapeutic solutions for cancer and infectious diseases in brain.

Our work has a goal to improve the current issue of ineffective treatment of brain diseases. We work on the delivery issue, prodrugs and aptamer technology.

It is a long-term vision beyond our work to improve the survival rates of patients suffering from devastating brain diseases such as glioblastoma and viral meningitis.

The project is a part of DTU Alliance PhD programme where the fellow will visit and collaborate with our Alliance partner in Ecole Polytechnique Paris France.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Your overall focus will be to strengthen the department’s competences within organic and biomolecular chemistry. You will work with nearby colleagues, and with both academic and industrial partners in Denmark as well as abroad. Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Teach and supervise BSc and MSc student projects, and be co-supervisor for PhD students
  • Plan and carry out the studies of the project
  • Trouble shoot the potential problems with your experiments
  • Report results to immediate supervisor, collaborators and DTU PhD school on a regular basis
  • Prepare research paper drafts and manage submission and revision processes
  • Attend relevant courses 
  • Complete the project with preparing and submitting thesis

To qualify for this position, you must have a master’s degree or its academic equivalent (120 ECTS points) in organic or medicinal chemistry, and preferably have experience with nucleoside and oligonucleotide synthesis.

Approval and Enrolment 
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. For information about our enrolment requirements and the general planning of the PhD study programme, please see DTU's rules for the PhD education

The assessment of the applicants will be made by supervisor Associate Professor Kira Astakhova.

Salary and appointment terms 
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. 

The period of employment is 3 years. Starting date is 1 January 2025 (or according to mutual agreement). The position is a full-time position.
