DTU, Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering is seeking a PhD in Combustion Modelling.
Are you passionate about revolutionizing the future of energy and sustainability? Are you excited about harnessing the power of computational fluid dynamics to drive innovation in alternative fuel combustion? If so, this position offers opportunities to study both the chemistry and physics of modelling the combustion process of methane in a constant volume chamber, as well as the multiphase spray flow that occurs when using diesel as a pilot fuel.
The project is to be carried out in collaboration with the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney, where the experimental setup is located.
If you have a strong background in CFD, and a desire to make a meaningful impact on the
world's energy future, we encourage you to explore this exciting career opportunity with us.
Responsibilities and qualifications
Your overall focus will be developing and validating computational models that simulate the combustion of alternative fuels, primarily methane. The physical pilot fuel-fuel spray interactions and mechanisms of flame stability are of particular interest. Identifying which interactions and mechanisms are at play could help manufacturers build more efficient engines, leading to easier adoption of alternative fuels and better fuel economy.
Responsibilities:
- Developing and validating a model of the experimental setup located at UNSW.
- Analyzing and presenting both experimental and simulation data.
- Supervising BSc and MSc students in their projects.
- Assisting in maintaining various fluid mechanics courses hosted by the department.
Core competencies:
- Strong background in CFD and fluid mechanics.
- Comfortable with CAD-software.
- Experience modelling combustion chemistry.
- Experience using STAR-CCM+ by Siemens is required.
- Data analysis and intuition for interpreting experimental results physically.
- Excellent documentation and reporting.
You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.
Approval and Enrolment
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. For information about our enrolment requirements and the general planning of the PhD study programme, please see DTU's rules for the PhD education
