If you are establishing your career as a scientist and you are looking for the best possible foundation for fulfilling your dreams and ambitions, it is right here in front of you. We are looking for a passionate PhD candidate in Thermal Energy Systems with strong programming, optimization, and dynamic analysis of energy systems. This position is partially on the Horizon Europe-funded project “TechUPGRADE” and partially on the Alliance PhD program-funded project “RESTUP” in partnership with TU/e Netherlands. You will be part of a very dedicated team with a senior project manager and several more PhD and postdoc researchers, focusing on cutting-edge and applied research to address the challenges of energy systems towards sustainability.

Responsibilities and qualifications
We are looking for an ambitious candidate for a PhD project (3-year, full-time) to focus on the project topic. We expect that the candidate will learn to perform rigorous and relevant research using a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods and extend collaborations with key academic and industrial partners at both a national and international level.

The successful applicant will have to stay 9 months out of the 36 months of the PhD period at Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands.

You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree – preferable an MSc. degree in thermal energy systems or similar, with strong skills in computer programming and optimization methods.

This is a list of more specific tasks you are expected to do in this position:

  • Conduct research in the intersection between academia and the industry
  • Lead the research project towards its specific research milestones and deliverables throughout its 3-year timespan
  • Write academic papers aimed at high-impact journals
  • Participate in international conferences and workshops
  • Disseminate research results and teach as part of the overall PhD education
  • Learn the role of the researcher and the specific tasks how to conduct research
  • Participate in teaching and student project supervisions

Approval and Enrolment
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. Assessment
The assessment of the applications will be mainly made by Senior Researcher Ahmad Arabkoohsar, receiving support from Professor Brian Elmegaard at DTU Construct and Assoc. Professor Henk Huinink at TU/e.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.

Starting date is the first of February 2024 (or according to mutual agreement). The position is a full-time position.
