BEMÆRK: Ansøgningsfristen er overskredet

The Materials Mechanics group within the Section of Solid Mechanics, Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering is hiring a highly qualified and ambitious PhD student to work on phase-field modeling of corrosion fatigue. The project is sponsored by the Independent Research Fund Denmark through the project “Advanced Phase-Field Models for Corrosion Fatigue”, and it is headed by Professor Christian Niordson.

Responsibilities and qualifications
The PhD student shall perform research within the development of a multi-physics modelling framework for fatigue damage in corrosive environments. The overarching aim of the project is to (1) couple phase field corrosion models with mechanics, (2) combine phase field fracture and corrosion formalisms, (3) incorporate the role of the material microstructure, (4) resolve the electro-chemo-mechanical nature of the problem, and (v) validate with experiments carried out by other project partners. The project is based on a close collaboration with other national and international academic partners as well as industrial partners, and the PhD student must contribute to tying project activities together.

The preferred candidate shall have background / experience in the following areas:

  • Solid Mechanics
  • Fracture and Fatigue
  • Numerical modelling using the Finite Element Method
  • Knowledge of electro-chemistry
  • Programming experience in languages such as Fortran or C++

You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.

Approval and Enrolment
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. For information about our enrolment requirements and the general planning of the PhD study programme, please see DTU's rules for the PhD education
