BEMÆRK: Ansøgningsfristen er overskredet

In the IDUN section at DTU Health Tech we are currently looking for a senior scientific consultant for medical devices aimed at enabling targeted drug delivery, sensing and sampling in the gastrointestinal tract. Within the framework of our ERC grant “Foldable, REconfigurable & Jagged devices for enhanced drug Absorption/seeding” (FREJA) and Novo Nordisk Challenge grant “Energy Materials for the GUT” (EMGUT), the overall ambition is to design, produce and characterize new medical devices comprising biocompatible and ingestible components for drug delivery, energy harvesting and gut sampling purposes.

In the IDUN section we have solid empirical experience in designing, producing, and testing micro- and macroscale devices for oral delivery and sampling. The focus in recent years has been on devices made in biocompatible and biodegradable materials. It is our overall vision that the application of new ingestible hybrid and/or composite materials will take us one step closer to realizing devices that can sense the local gut environment and execute tasks such as sampling and delivery throughout the gastrointestinal tract. Such devices have the potential to revolutionize both diagnosis and treatment of alimentary disorders as well as realizing a more optimal oral delivery platform for pharmaceutical compounds such as vaccines and macromolecular drugs.

We offer a highly creative, collaborative and ambitious work environment. This project will be part of the IDUN section, led by Prof. Anja Boisen at DTU Health Tech. IDUN is a cross-disciplinary research section with over 40 members, that focuses on development of micro and nanotechnology based sensors, detection systems and drug delivery devices.

The job
As a senior scientific consultant you will be working in close collaboration with researchers currently working on the FREJA and EMGUT projects and you will be referring to Professor Anja Boisen. You need to thrive in an international, multidisciplinary and highly ambitious team where things move at a fast pace. It is essential that you have a proven track record of working with medical devices. Furthermore, it is important that you have worked with small and large animals to investigate the in vivo performance of ingestible devices.

You are expected to enjoy interacting with PhD students and Postdocs, and actively participate in supervising PhD students. The position will allow you to strengthen your skills and experience within the field of material science, device design and fabrication methods.

Below is a selection of your future primary areas of responsibility listed:

  • Designing new medical devices for sensing, sampling and delivery (ideation and prototyping together with other IDUN members)
  • Data treatment
  • Establishing suitable in vitroex vivo and in vivo methods for device testing
  • Coordination and prioritization of tasks with other FREJA and EMGUT members
  • Planning and participation in student projects through supervision
  • Technical documentation, article writing and potential patent applications
  • Active participation in ideation, brainstorming, project descriptions and grant applications

Our expectations of you
We seek a highly motivated and ambitious person with a curious and innovative mindset. You will most likely have a strong biological, medical engineering and drug delivery background as evidenced by publications in these fields. The ideal candidate holds a PhD degree and has extensive experience in working with devices for medical applications. You are theoretically well-founded with a keen interest in the physiology, especially gastrointestinal tract, and can design comparative in vivo experiments in small and large animals.

You are proactive and excel at working both independently as well as in collaboration with other team members. You are excited by fundamental as well as applied research, idea generation, data treatment, documentation and communication of technically advanced results. You are also open to take responsibility of new tasks within your competence areas as well as other tasks within the framework of the IDUN section.

In IDUN, our motto is ‘bringing science to life’ and we believe in openness, inclusiveness, having ambitions, making a difference and collaboration. You will play a role in various activities in the research section, interacting with several members working in different disciplines, such as biology, microfabrication, pharmaceutical science, and polymer science. The projects are highly interdisciplinary, and we expect that you enjoy teamwork and be good at coordinating your work with colleagues.

What we offer in return
We offer an interesting and challenging job in an international atmosphere with the focus on research, teaching, innovation and scientific advice for the benefit of the surrounding community. We place emphasis on a high level of professionalism among our staff, so skills development is an integral part of our organization. We offer a great flexibility in the position. In the area of technical and natural sciences, DTU is one of the leading research and education institutions in Europe.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). You are employed as a Senior Officer or Senior Executive Officer in the project EMGUT. The position is for 37 hours. This is a project employment with an expiry date of 31 July 2028.

We expect the person to be able to start 1 April 2024.

Application and contact
Please submit your online application no later than 21 December 2023 (23:59 Danish time).  Open the “Apply now” link, fill out the form and attach your motivated application, CV and exam certificates.

If you would like additional information about the position, please contact Professor Anja Boisen at aboi@dtu.dk .

Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

All interested candidates irrespective of age, gender, race, disability, religion or ethnic background are encouraged to apply.
