Software engineer in space instrumentation at DTU Space

dato

For this new position, we at DTU Space offer a unique opportunity as Software Engineer within Measurement and Instrumentation. You will work closely with the Flight Software Team in support of the division’s software activities.

The Measurement and Instrumentation Division develops optoelectronic navigation and magnetometers instruments, which are used on many international space missions. The division’s research focuses primarily on the development of high-precision space mission instruments. In addition, the division works to optimize the quality and reliability of Space Systems measurements by developing methods to calibrate and intercalibrate the systems.

The research includes the entire process from design, development, testing and verification to implementation of instruments for spacecraft and satellites.

We also offer related public consulting services – mostly related to Denmark´s membership of the European Space Agency (ESA) and to NASA. The division works extensively with foreign Space organizations, universities and research institutes as well as companies within the Space industry.

The job
In collaboration with the software team, you will – after solid onboarding – be part of:

  • Development and maintenance of ground support equipment to be used in control, monitoring and stimulation of the division’s flight instrument portfolio
  • Study potential software improvements of the instrument portfolio
  • Development and maintenance of the division’s instrument portfolio
  • Data analysis (flight and ground) for diagnostics, quality assessment and presentation
  • Offline support for external instrument users
  • Prepare documentation, such as manuals, technical notes, procedures, test reports, etc.

Our expectations of you
You are expected to hold a master’s degree in a relevant academic field (preferably engineering).

It is expected that you are proficient in computer programming (e.g. C, MATLAB/Python and assembler) and are motivated towards taking the next step in your career in the direction of taking ownership of this central responsibility.

You have experience within an industry area known for very high-quality standards, e.g. space, military, pharma, medical devices, automotive or similar.

Regardless of your level of experience, you have a drive to develop, a curiosity about new methods, creative abilities and not least a great interest in new technologies – and a motivation to be part of a world-class research environment. If so, your future colleagues at DTU Space know that you also - like them - will be passionate about the area and job content.

As a person you are solution oriented, dedicated, have good collaboration skills and communicate well with many different types of people. You can execute and run a project from beginning to end.

Furthermore, you can recognize yourself in the following description:

  • Experience from academic or scientific environment
  • A systematic mindset and service minded
  • Can read and speak English at a high level – skills in Danish are an advantage, but are not mandatory
  • Master navigation in computer systems
