Do you want to manage the EQAsia project? To coordinate and keep track of deliverables? To build capacity in antimicrobial susceptibility testing in South/Southeast Asia?
The National Food Institute at DTU is looking for an experienced project manager to assist in managing the capacity building project EQAsia, a programme funded by the Fleming Fund. In this position you will be part of a team addressing regional challenges to achieve continuous quality antimicrobial resistance (AMR) diagnostics for surveillance and policy-making across the One Health (OH) sectors in Asia.
At the core of the project, we seek to provide and strengthen external quality assurance (EQA) services to National Reference Laboratories / Centres of Excellence in the region, with a long term aim of building regional and national capacity for EQA provision. The Global Capacity Building Research Group at the National Food Institute holds responsibilities as reference laboratory for antimicrobial resistance for EU, WHO and FAO which include being involved in international collaborative projects conducting capacity building in several countries.
The job
As our new colleague, you will manage the project and keep track of milestones and deliverables. You will be working with two consortium partners in Asia to support and expand the regional EQA scheme and network of National Reference Laboratories within. Moreover, with the technical teams, you will oversee various efforts aimed at building AMR diagnostic capacities within the region. This includes post-EQA consultation meetings, online seminars, and in-person workshops for the laboratories.
You will be providing support to the network of national reference laboratories, collaborators, and stakeholders, and ensure project synergies across the networks e.g., via regular conference calls and meetings. As a development project, you will be responsible for ensuring quality and progress across the various activities and continuously seek opportunities and alignments that may benefit the project and help reach the overall goal of strengthened laboratory capacity for AMR surveillance across Asia. Lastly, as the project manager you will work towards ensuring long-term access to the project services across the region, engaging with donors and preparing sustainability and exit plans for the activities.
You will be monitoring and reporting progress and risks for the fund and managing agent each quarter, related to both the technical achievements and the financial expenditures.
Primary areas of responsibility:
- Management of the project activities, hereunder overseeing the implementation of EQA trials and various capacity building activities, monitoring risk and progress and keeping track of milestones and deliverables.
- Communication and coordination with funding body, project partners and stakeholders such as FAO, WHO and WOAH and other Fleming Fund Grants.
- Monitoring and evaluation of project, hereunder preparing quarterly and annual reports to the fund.
- Administrative and logistics coordination, incl. planning and organization of events and training such as in-person workshops and online seminars.
- Donor engagement management, incl. updating sustainability and exit plans for the project activities and arranging donor engagement activities.
- Knowledge dissemination of project data, achievements and progress via webpages and scientific journals.
- Support to managements of other Fleming Fund projects.
Our expectations of you
We are looking for a visionary profile that thrives on turning exciting challenges into solutions. As we build capacity in a diverse region with different levels of resources and competencies, we expect you to be curious and open-minded for exploring new pathways or changing directions, when necessary and needed for fostering development. We expect you to have a background in Global health, public health, international development, or a similar area and to have extensive experience with project management working with international health projects in LMIC, preferably in Africa and Asia. Experience working in high-level institutions such as WHO, FAO etc. will be a benefit, as well as experience working with Fleming Fund grants.
Essential expertise would include:
- Documented experience managing large capacity building projects related to health in LMIC, preferably in Asia and/or Africa. Although not a requirement, experience with AMR related projects will be preferred.
- Educational background in Global Health, Public Health or International Development.
- Ability to self-manage and work independently, whilst ensuring synergies and alignment within the project, by supporting the partners and teams across Asia.
- Ability to plan and execute complex tasks and to engage constructively in a large, international, and cross-disciplinary environment.
- Excellent communication skills in English (C1 level), both orally and in writing
- Good communication skills, oral and written.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. Starting date is February 01, 2024 and the period of employment is until February 28, 2026.
