Join DTU Health Tech as an assay developer in innovative diagnostic technology research and development

dato

We are looking for a skilled specialist with strong hands-on experience in development and validation of diagnostic assays for central hospital laboratory use and point-of-care technology (POCT). We seek someone with excellent organisational skills who can independently initiate and coordinate new projects while maintaining an overview and ensuring high quality in the daily work. Experience in working within the highly regulated environment of medical device (MDR/IVDR) is desired.

Centre for Diagnostics (CfD)
CfD houses a Unit for Biomarker Innovation (UBI) which is dedicated to the development of new and innovative diagnostic assays in collaboration with DTU institutes, hospitals, universities and the biotech industry. Our assays are used for the detection of biomarkers, pathogens, or pathogen-induced antibodies in laboratory-based platforms and POCT devices. In parallel, CfD operates a commercial diagnostic business primarily centered on PCR and serological diagnostics (Olink, MSD, Luminex and ELISA), serving hospitals, universities and industry.

The position
As a CfD assay developer, you will spend time in the lab developing new point-of-care methods in project collaborations with our stakeholders. You will partake in conducting analytical, clinical and usability evaluations and ensure design transfer to manufacture/company.

You will be responsible for a portion of collaboration project work packages, including budget management and communication with external project stakeholders. Additionally, you are expected to secure new project funding by writing grant proposals and finalizing all project documents, such as Gantt charts and budgets. You will work closely with other assay developers, sharing your expertise across all ongoing projects.

Moreover, we expect you to stay up to date on publications within your field and gain knowledge on cutting edge methods, whilst sharing your knowledge and ideas with the assay developers in the group.

As CfD also engages in Fee-for-Service activities, you will handle the commercial tasks within your field of expertise (e.g., ELISA, SPR), including securing contracts, creating budgets, and sending quotes for tasks. These tasks are received daily and require your prompt and diligent attention.

The department is accredited and operates in accordance with the ISO 17025 standard. The next step for CfD is to achieve ISO 13485 compliance, and we anticipate that you will have some expertise to help facilitate this transition.

You have experience or knowledge in design and development processes, guiding products through all phases from research and ideation to design, development, verification, and finalization. This includes design transfer to production and validation of the final product (both clinical and usability aspects). You will leverage these skills to implement design and development processes at CfD and assist in attracting manufacturing companies.

You will be based in the CfD group that currently consists of four assay developers, two lab technicians and a business developer, as well as two postdocs doing internships. We aim to expand our group in parallel with our portfolio of projects.

Our expectations
We expect you to have the following background and competencies:

  • A Master or PhD degree and extensive expertise in immunology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, molecular biology, or similar.
  • Several years’ experience with diagnostic assay development, assay optimization and implementation.
  • Knowledge of MDR/IVDR, design control, and clinical studies is a must.
  • Experience with running SPR, ELISA, MSD, Luminex or similar immune-based assays as well as RT-qPCR and Next Generation Sequencing.
  • Solid hands-on experience with POCT methods for protein biomarker detection ie. LFAs and ECL technologies or other microfluidic devices.
  • A deep understanding of protein-ligand interactions and experience with surface plasmon resonance (SPR) technology is considered an asset. You will be responsible for the research and commercial activities on our BiaCore instrument.
  • You are efficient and solution oriented
  • A proficiency in statistical analysis
  • A proven track record of successful grant applications and research publications.
  • Experience with project management, where you use your excellent collaboration and English communication skills to ensure successful project outcomes.

Competencies considered an advantage:

  • A flair for business development
  • Experience with bioinformatics, especially programming, Linux, Python and R.
  • Experience with coordinating the work of laboratory technicians.
  • A sense of humor and positive attitude, contributing to an enjoyable working environment.
